Area of Interaction: Environments Significant Concept: The environment that surrounds us influences the end result. Unit Question: How does the Environment change or shape you?Requirements:
Follow instructions given to create a practice house while learning Sketchup.
You will participate in a class activity to find your design specifications (type of house, location, etc).
Using those specifications, you will research the best design for your given situation.
Using Google SketchUp you are going to design a house to meet specific environmental requirements.
Criterion A - Research and Analysis
As a class we will go through and learn the basics of Google Sketchup. In order to get full credit for Criterion A, you will need to follow instructions while creating the practice house.
We will do an activity as a class to determine the design specifications of your house. Location: New York Shape: L-Shaped Number of People: 6
Using the Internet, you are going to research your assigned location to determine if there are specific building requirements.
1. What material should be used in building your house? (ex. wood, brick, concrete)
2. Is there land available for a large home? Or does the location require a smaller house?
Yes about 3,000 feet.
3. Will you have a multi-level house?
Yes. Two Levels.
4. What kind of roof will your house need?
A Triangular Roof.
Criterion B - Design
Now that you have the specifications, you are going to use the Design Worksheet to create a blueprint of your house. You need to include front door, windows, bathrooms, kitchen, bedrooms, living room, and any other feature you are going to use in your design.
--Remember: You will need to justify any changes made to your design blueprint when you are designing your house.--
Must turn in your Design Blueprint worksheet to receive credit for Criterion B
Criterion C - Create
Your design/blueprint should be all complete and ready for you to create the Sketchup house to fit the plans.
For this house you are starting with a blank file and not using a previously built house. Here are the requirements that you should have in the house: --Walls --Windows --Doors --Bathroom --Kitchen --Bedroom(s) --Living Room/Family Room --Walls Painted --Some kind of flooring --Windows filled in (either transparent or with a window component) --Front Door component --Furniture in the entire house (as if a family could move in today) --Anything else you decided to include.
Once you have completed your Sketchup House, upload the file here.
Answer the following questions - 1. Does your house follow the design/blueprints? If not, what changes did you make and why?
Yes it does follow the blueprints, with some few adjustments, because I didn't make the house as correctly as I pictured it would be.
2. What did you like most about this project? (name at least one thing)
Well I liked that I made a house, know the dimensions of the house in New York.
3. What would you change about this project for the future? (name at least one thing)
I would put more effort into it, I would try to fix the dimensions make the rooms equally.
Criterion D - Evaluate
1. How did the environment you were assigned (location, number of people, shape) affect the type of house you created?
It did affect what I would do, because I was thinking a square or a rectangular house not an L shaped house.
2. Would you have built a different house if those specifications hadn't been given to you? Why or Why Not?
Yes, because I can make my house as how I would want it to be.
Unit Questions -
3. How has your own personal environment shaped/changed you? (at least 3-4 complete sentences)
It has changed me not a whole lot but that is to me. Towards other people I do not know. I would want to change my living space. The environment has changed me into liking/doing other things that I would have never done.
4. What can you do in your own environment to guarantee the future that you want? (2-3 complete sentences)
I would make my room a "me" environment, like make it so that I have more room to move around, make it a place that I would enjoy.
